Critical Summer Actions and Deadlines
Below you will find a list of key deadlines you must meet as a new MIT student. Items must be received by MIT or completed online by 5 PM US Eastern Daylight Time on the date given, unless otherwise specified, for example, the First Year Essay Exam (FEE) is due at 1PM EDT.
Be sure to check your MIT email for important communications and reminders we send over the summer. We only send messages to your MIT email account, so see Getting Started with IT for students for details on accessing your MIT email.
May
- TBD May: Submit your Medical Report due no later than July 21. For questions, see the Medical Report FAQ or email medrpt@med.mit.edu.
- TBD May 3: First Year Academic Information Session Form goes LIVE here. Please sign up by June 5, 2024.
- May 10: Deadline to create your Kerberos Account and create your MIT Email address (You will need your 9-digit MIT ID number which can be found in your admission letter).
- May 14 – June 5: Housing application open for the Class of 2028.
- May 15: Online First Year Essay Evaluation (June and July FEE) registration opens. Deadline to sign up for the June FEE is June 10 at 1PM EDT and the deadline for the July FEE is July 9 at 1 PM EDT.
- May 20: Added to the Class of 2028 Slack Channel. You must confirm your acceptance.
- May 20 – June 14: FPOP Application opens.
- May 20 – June 14: First Year Advising application available.
June
- June: Submit your Medical Report due no later than July 19. For questions, see the Medical Report FAQ or email medrpt@med.mit.edu.
- June 5: Deadline to submit your Housing application.
- June 5: Deadline to sign up for the First Year Academic Information Session.
- June 6 – June 14: First Year Academic Information Sessions will be held (via Zoom. Pre-registration is required)
- June 10: Deadline to register for the June First Year Evaluation by 1:00 PM.
- June 11 – June 18: June First Year Essay Evaluation (FEE).
- June 14: Deadline to submit your Pre-Orientation Program (FPOP) application.
- June 14: Deadline to submit your First Year Advising application
- June 14: Deadline to submit your ID photo.
- TBD: June 21: Deadline to submit your Final Transcript and Official Test Scores (SAT, ACT, or English language proficiency exams) to the Admissions Office. Instructions on how to submit your Final Transcript will be linked here soon; and you can check the “status” of listed tests on your applicant status portal. If you have already sent these, you needn’t resubmit. Contact Admissions Office directly at admissions@mit.edu if you have questions about either, as OFY staff cannot answer this question.

- July 1 – July 12: Advanced Standing Exam registration form is available for you to submit.
- July 3 – August 1: Orientation Registration Form is available for you to submit.
- TBD: July 8-29: Complete part one of AlcoholEdu and Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates course (SAPU) training modules. Part 1 of both modules must be completed by July 26.
- TBD: July 8-29: Complete Kognito – Emotional Wellness on College and University Campuses training and the Academic Integrity Training.
- July 9: Deadline to register for the June First Year Evaluation by 1:00 PM.
- July 10 – July 17: July First Year Essay Evaluation (FEE).
- July 12: Deadline for submission of AP/IB scores and Transfer Credit materials (Math, Chemistry, and Physics) – forms must be received for evaluation by this date.
- July 12: Advanced Standing Exam registration form due.
- July 22 – August 5: Fall Academic Class Planning Form is available. Please note, for those of you who are interested taking a language class and need to have your level of proficiency assessed, visit this page: https://languages.mit.edu/language-placement-proficiency/.
- TBD: July 21: Submit your Medical Report. For questions, see the Medical Report FAQ or email medrpt@med.mit.edu.
August
- August 1: Fall Term Tuition Payment due. See the Student Financial Services website for more information.
- August 1: Your Orientation Registration Form is due.
- August 1: Submit your Emergency Contact Information form on WebSIS. MIT needs to have your emergency information. Please discuss this with your parents or guardians and then fill out both your Personal Emergency Contact and Campus Emergency Notification (MITAlert) information on WebSIS. You will be prompted to update this every semester during Registration.
- August 5: Deadline to submit your Fall Academic Class Planning Form.
- August 8 – August 16: Math Skills Assessment open.
- August 9: Orientation Schedule available online via the Guidebook app.
- TBD: August 15: Deadline to submit your health insurance waiver.
- August 15: Your Online Advising Folder is available. Please review your folder by August 22.
- August 16: Math Skills Assessment closes.
- August 17 – 18: International student arrival. More information will be emailed to international students this summer.
- August 20: Pre-Orientation Program participant arrival by 4:00PM EDT.
- August 24: All remaining members of the Class of 2028 should arrive by 4pm. We ask that all students check in for Orientation by 5pm.
Advanced Standing Exam Dates:
(Please note: ASEs will be held remotely through August 8. Exams on September 5 will be in person)
