FLP/FYLE: Freshman Leadership Program
First Year Leadership Experience aims to create a network of 1st year students to help them gain a greater understanding of the MIT community as a whole. Through various workshops and speakers, students will develop and be able to convey their own personal leadership narratives as well as recognize their identities and values that will play a role in their college career. Overall, the First Year Leadership Experience helps first year students transition into college with greater confidence and sets a foundation for their leadership abilities.
Specifics:
Workshop #1: August 18th 1-3 pm
- Understanding Yourself and Others: Through understanding their personal narratives, coalition building, and finding common ground first year students will develop language around diverse identities and shared values in the MIT community.
Workshop #2: August 19th 12-2 pm
- How to Become an Influential Leader: City of Cambridge Mayor, Sumbul Siddiqui, will join FLP in an open forum discussion surrounding a variety of topics including diversity and inclusion in the community, developing leadership practices and practical advice on how to become a better, more influential leader.
Workshop #3: August 20th 4-5 pm
- Creating a Network: An opportunity for first year students to connect with other classmates as well as have the chance to ask upperclassmen.
