Critical Summer Actions and Deadlines

Here are the key deadlines you must meet as a new MIT student. Items must be received by MIT or completed online by 5 PM US Eastern Daylight Time on the date given, unless otherwise specified, for example, the FEE is due at 1PM EDT.

Be sure to check your MIT email for important communications and reminders we send over the summer. We only send messages to your MIT email account, so see Getting Started with IT for students for details on accessing your MIT email.

May

June

  • June: Submit your Medical Report due no later than July 21. For questions, see the Medical Report FAQ or email medrpt@med.mit.edu.
  • May 31 – June 7: June First Year Essay Evaluation (FEE). Note: you MUST register for the June FEE by May 30 at 1pm EDT.
  • June 4: Deadline to sign up for the First year Academic Information Session.
  • June 5 – June 15: First Year Academic Information Sessions will be held (via Zoom. Pre-registration is required)
  • June 9: Deadline to submit your Pre-Orientation Program (FPOP) application.
  • June 14: Deadline to submit your Housing application.
  • June 16: Deadline to submit your First Year Advising application
  • June 16: Deadline to submit your ID photo.
  • June 21: Deadline to submit your Final Transcript and Official Test Scores (SAT, ACT, or English language proficiency exams) to the Admissions Office. Instructions on how to submit your Final Transcript will be linked here soon; and you can check the “status” of listed tests on your applicant status portal. If you have already sent these, you needn’t resubmit. Contact Admissions Office directly at admissions@mit.edu if you have questions about either, as OFY staff cannot answer this question.

August

  • August 1: Fall Term Tuition Payment due. See the Student Financial Services website for more information.
  • August 1: Your Orientation Registration Form is due.
  • August 1: Submit your Emergency Contact Information form on WebSIS (mandatory). MIT needs to have your emergency information. Please discuss this with your parents or guardians and then fill out both your Personal Emergency Contact and Campus Emergency Notification (MITAlert) information on WebSIS. Re-check your information at the beginning of each term or whenever your emergency information changes.
  • August 4: Deadline to submit your Fall Academic Class Planning Form.
  • August 11: Orientation Schedule available online via the Guidebook app.
  • August 14, 9 AM EDT: Math Skills Assessment open through August 16 at 5PM EDT.
  • August 15: Deadline to submit your health insurance waiver.
  • August 15: Your Online Advising Folder is available. Please review your folder by August 22.
  • August 16, 5 PM EDT: Math Skills assessment closes.
  • August 19-20: International student arrival. More information will be emailed to international students this summer.
  • August 22: Pre-Orientation Program participant arrival by 4:00PM EDT.
  • August 26: All remaining members of the Class of 2027 should arrive by 4pm. We ask that all students check in for Orientation by 5pm.

Advanced Standing Exam Dates:

(Please note: ASEs will be held remotely through August 10. Exams on September 5 will be in person)

These are the only dates that these exams will be held. Reminder: Registration for the Advanced Standing Exams is from July 1 – July 14.

  • July 31, 10am – 12pm:  6.100A Advanced Standing Exam
  • August 1, 1pm – 4pm:  Biology Advanced Standing Exam
  • August 2, 12pm – 3pm: 5.111 Chemistry Advanced Standing Exam
  • August 7, 12pm – 3pm: 8.01 Advanced Standing Exam
  • August 8, 9am or 4pm: 18.01 Advanced Standing Exam
  • August 9, 12pm – 3pm: 8.02 Advanced Standing Exam
  • August 10, 9am or 4pm: 18.02 Advanced Standing Exam
  • September 5, 9am-12pm EDT: 8.03 Advanced Standing Exam
  • September 5, 2-5pm EDT: 8.04 Advanced Standing Exam 
  • September 5, 9am-12pm EDT: 18.03 Advanced Standing Exam
  • September 5, 9am-12pm EDT: 18.06 Advanced Standing Exam
  • September 5, 1pm EDT: 5:12 Chemistry Advanced Standing Exam (Must have transfer credit for 5.111 or pass the 5.11 ASE on August 2)
