Discover Emergency Operations (DEO)

Discover Emergency Operations is an introduction to the emergency response effort at MIT and in the greater Boston area. Through DEO, you will experience what it’s like to be an EMT, a firefighter, and a police officer through multiple agencies, including MIT EMS, Pro EMS, Cambridge Fire, and MIT Police. You will also learn about other aspects of emergency management, including first responder dispatch and disaster preparedness. In DEO, you’ll see firsthand what it takes to save lives! We’re also here to help you learn about life at MIT from people who know it best — fellow students.

What will we do?

  • Tour MIT EMS’s ambulance, flycar, and bunkroom
  • Learn what it’s like to be an EMT while in college
  • Get CPR and Stop the Bleed certified!
  • Meet MIT PD and explore police headquarters
  • Experience the sim labs at Pro EMS
  • Learn about MIT Emergency Management
  • Get familiar with life at MIT and tour the campus!
  • Explore Boston through some excursions and activities (past years have done ice cream, escape rooms, mini golfing, walking tours, etc!)
