When You Arrive – August

This page informs you about what you need to do when you arrive on campus.

Arrival

Welcome to Campus! Your arrival date to MIT for the fall semester will vary depending on if you’re a fall athlete or an International student. Please review the arrival dates and information below to determine what day you are able to arrive on campus.

Please note that if you are arriving via plane, there is no MIT shuttle service to campus from the airport.  Most students travel to campus from the airport via taxi or MBTA. You can find more information about traveling to campus at this link.

Check-In Information

When you arrive on campus for orientation, you should proceed directly to your assigned residence hall.  Once you have checked in there, you should proceed to check in with Orientation staff. Check In will be located in Building 3, room 108 (3-108, the DEN). When you check in, you will be given your MIT ID. Do not print your MIT ID at a self-service kiosk before receiving your ID at check-in, as this will void the ID given to you at check-in. If you are living off-campus, you are welcome to pick up your ID over the weekend if you’re unable to pick it up on your respective check-in date.

Baggage Storage

If you need to have your baggage or belongings sent to Cambridge prior to your arrival on campus, you must make arrangements with a separate company. You cannot ship directly to MIT until you have moved into your permanent housing assignment.

Approved Fall Athletes

Approved Fall Athletes: Fall athlete arrival dates are communicated by Athletics. If you are participating in a varsity sport and have not been in touch with your coach regarding the arrival date for your team, please do so at your earliest convenience. See the Athletics Website for a complete listing of all coaches and their email addresses.

International Students

International Students:  International students can arrive and check in on Saturday, August 16, 2025 or Sunday, August 17, 2025. International Orientation events are held on Monday, August 18, 2025 and Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Please visit the International Students Office website or email iso-help@mit.edu with any questions.
