Sample Advisor Welcome Email

Below is a template advisor welcome email that you can customize as needed for reaching out to your advisees.


Subject: Welcome to MIT from your Advisor! 

Dear (first names of advisees),

Welcome to MIT! I hope you’re incredibly excited about arriving to campus soon! 

I’m (how you’d like to be addressed) and I’ll be your advisor for your entire first year. I’ll help you select your classes and make sure that you have a happy and successful first-year experience.  I’m a professor in the _______ Department, and my lab studies __________.  I’m looking forward to getting to know you over the next few months.  I hope that you will see me as your main support and advocate for anything related to academic, campus life or in general. 

Working alongside me is ___________, your associate advisor.  They are an upper-level student who will give you the insight into classes, professors and student life. (Enter a brief bio that your associate advisor has prepared).  Together, we are committed to making sure that you have a smooth transition to college. 

We will meet for the first time as an advising group on Tuesday, August 27 at (enter anytime 1:30-3PM) in (LOCATION).  This will be an opportunity for introductions and informally talking about your plans for the Fall semester.  

Thursday, August 29 is when we’ll meet with each of you individually, to register you for fall classes. I will give you more details about this during our Tuesday group meeting.
