Associate Advisor Position Description

Associate Advisors are upper-level MIT students in a volunteer leadership position who provide academic support and resources to a group of first-year students.

The Undergraduate Advising Center matches associate advisors with an UAC or a faculty advisor in a traditional, seminar-based group or a learning community. Associate advisors compliment the advisor’s efforts by providing the student perspective on MIT academics and student life. Associate advisors are highly visible on campus and and serve as role models and support first-year initiatives including programming in their residential communities.

 Responsibilities 

  • Support the advisor in registration all semesters
  • Attend spring and August orientations, and advising meetings during first-year orientation 
  • Organize social activities with advising group 
  • Initiate contact with the advisees at least 3 times a semester 
  • Maintain contact with advisor throughout the year and keep them informed about your advisee interactions
